'Now You See Me' beats 'After Earth' at Friday box office

"Now You See Me" -- about a team of magicians that pulls off heists during their performances and gives the money to the audience -- made an estimated $10 million Friday. That put it just ahead of the savagely reviewed "After Earth," which took in an estimated $9.8 million.

Those numbers are in line with what the two movies made in Thursday night shows, with "Now You See Me" earning $1.5 million to $1 million for "After Earth."

Neither film claimed the top spot in Friday's box office -- that belongs to "Fast & Furious 6," which is likely to spend its second week at No. 1 after earning $10.5 million Friday. The slumping "Hangover Part III" ($5.2 million) -- which was down a massive 87 percent from last Friday -- and "Star Trek Into Darkness" ($4.5 million) rounded out Friday's Top 5.
