One Direction get completely waxed - for Madame Tussauds
Tussauds Head of Marketing Liz Wells tells ET, "We have been overwhelmed by requests for us to feature One Direction. The boys have been top of the most wanted personalities list in London, New York and Sydney for the last 12 months, so we are delighted we can now satisfy public demand by bringing their figures to each of these cities in a special 'world tour', which will eventually take in more locations."
Group member Harry Styles (pictured above getting his measurements taken) says, "We're just kind of a bit overwhelmed. We've been to Madame Tussauds and seen the kind of people who are in there. It's crazy to think that we will up there with them."
The process takes around four months to complete and each figure will cost nearly $200,000 to make.
Principle sculptor Stephen Mansfield says, "We are acutely aware that millions of fans around the world will have a lot to say about these figures and we are determined not to let them down. We are hard at work to not only recreate totally accurate physical likenesses, but we want to inject something of the boys' energy and personalities into their figures too."
"The boys have been a delight to work with, really co-operative and a huge amount of fun," Mansfield adds.
The One Direction wax figures will be in London beginning April 18 and running through July 11, then they will embark on a world tour that includes New York and Sydney, finishing in January 2014.
