Well, well, well, who's wearing the emperor's clothes now? Always slightly naked, Lady Gaga has done something only three other entertainers have done in the last seven years. She has dethroned Oprah Winfrey from the No. 1 position on Forbes' annual list of the 100 most powerful celebrities in entertainment for 2011.
What we find interesting is that the decision to place the pop star above the media mogul wasn't totally based on the $170 million she made on her Monster tour or the 15 million albums she has sold in the past year.
Forbes justifies its decision by citing Gaga's social media influence. She recently reached 10 million followers on Twitter compared to Oprah's tiny legion of 5.8 million or so followers. Gaga also has 32 million followers on Facebook, which only makes her marketing potential to brands she features in her videos, such as MAC makeup, Monster headphones and Virgin Mobile phones, even more lucrative for everyone involved.
While Oprah holds on to No. 2, Forbes wonders if she'll slip again as she leaves her syndicated talk show this month and dedicates all her efforts on the struggling OWN network.
Winfrey better stay on her manolo heels, because another pop star is nipping at them. 17 year-old Justin Bieber comes in at No. 3!
