orange-is-the-new-black-cast-emmy-2014-for-your-consideration-event.jpgNetflix breakout series "Orange Is The New Black" is nominated for 12 Emmy Awards in 2014 for its first season. All it takes is a few minutes spent with the incredible and diverse cast to see why they deserve not only the nominations, but to walk away with the trophies on the big night.

Comedian and TV host Chelsea Handler moderated a discussion panel with the cast of the hit show as part of the 2014 For Your Consideration pre-award festivities on Aug. 4. If you think you know all there is to know about cast members Taylor Schilling (Piper Chapman), Kate Mulgrew (Galina 'Red' Reznikov), Jason Biggs (Larry Bloom), Uzo Aduba (Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes' Warren), Laverne Cox (Sophia Burset), Natasha Lyonne (Nicky Nichols) and Lea DeLaria (Carrie 'Big Boo' Black), in addition to creator, showrunner and executive producer, Jenji Kohan -- you are greatly mistaken, because the night was full of surprises for even the biggest "Orange" fans.

Luckily Zap2it was there to catch all the action. Here are the best revelations, moments and juicy tidbits gained during the interrogation.

After cast mates Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba shared their audition experiences for the hit series, Mulgrew realized her's was very different from theirs. Her reaction was priceless.

"I'm fascinated you guys got the whole script! I only got two pages, but I loved those two pages. While I was doing the audition, I felt the kismet. I mean it's like love, it's like sex. It just felt great, so great, but then you made me wait -- just like sex," she said as the crowd roared with laughter.

A lesbian striptease got vetoed

Kohan revealed a striptease scene between Piper (Schilling) and Alex (Prepon) got vetoed because the lesbians on staff all said Piper, who was wearing as it was described as "a whole corset thing," was "dressed to titillate a man, not a woman." Kohan explained "It was apparently really hot for all the guys on set and all the lesbians were like 'No, this is for a man. That's not what you would wear."

When the cast was sharing their audition experience, Cox admitted it's hard to think about because she has "been on cloud 9" since her Emmy nomination, she did reveal she auditioned for the role of Sophia in a short, red wig topped with a bandana and no makeup. Kohan admits after seeing the audition tape she said, "I want that girl with the janky wig, get her!"

Schilling admitted the scariest thing about shooting the show for her are the nude scenes. Every scene which calls for her to be naked requires an in depth conversation with Kohan for her to feel comfortable. "The physical risks are always paired with an emotional shift in the character's development," she explained, which allows her to justify being able to do it.

Outsiders are not allowed in the writer's room

"Because of the nature of what we do, it has to be private. We were offered some magazine thing and they were going to put us on the cover, but they wanted to spend a week in the room, and I said 'That will never happen.' We have to have the freedom to be as horrible as we want, and vulnerable," Kohan explained.

The comedian called out Lyonne for being most like her character, Nicky, in real life. When Lyonne wasn't sure how to take the comparison, Handler justified it by saying, "You have a big personality." Lyonne admits, "I do think because of my experiences, I have a ton to draw on." Kohan then chimed in saying that although she can see the similarities, Natasha is much smarter than Nicky.

Laverne has a favorite character -- and it's not Sophia
Cox admitted to having a deep love for another character on the series -- Crazy Eyes. She says, "I think the innocence is why I love her. It's so there on the page, it's so there in your (Aduba's) performance. I live for her!"

When the audience had the opportunity to ask questions, a woman stepped up to the microphone and said, "One always wonders how successful people, as all of you on stage are, got to where you got. And I'm wondering Jenji, if in your opinion, to what extent do you think genetics contributed to your success?" Kohan then introduced the woman as her mother to the crowd -- looks like funny definitely runs in the Kohan genes.
