Oscar Pistorius indicted in Reeva Steenkamp's death, trial set for March 2014
Pistorius has long claimed that he thought Steenkamp was an intruder in his home when he shot her through a locked bathroom door in the early hours of the morning on Valentine's Day. Prosecutors allege that the crime was premeditated, which carries a minimum of 25 years in prison if Pistorius is convicted.
Pistorius' lawyers want the charge reduced to culpable homicide. The trial date has been set for March 3, 2014 and will be presided over by a judge, since in South Africa the justice system does not conduct trials by jury.
