Oscars 2011: Corey Haim absent from In Memoriam reel yet again

corey-haim-horiz-gi.jpgAfter Corey Haim was left out of the SAG Awards' In Memoriam reel back in January, we had expected "The Lost Boys" actor to make the cut at this year's Academy Awards.

We were mistaken.

Haim, who passed away in March 2010, was left out of the same segment in the 2011 Oscars. We watched intently during the In Memoriam segment of the show to see if Haim's face would appear while Celine Dion sang "Smile," and felt a tinge of disappointment when the song came to an end with no sign of Haim.

After the SAG omission, long-time friend and co-star Corey Feldman had told The Hollywood Reporter that he hoped to see his pal honored by the Academy.

"We have become used to not being honored by our peers in the industry," he said in a statement. "I have faith that the Academy will make a wiser choice."

A representative from SAG told Zap2it that Haim's absence from the reel was unintentional, but a circumstance of time.

"We had two memorial packages, a longer version and a shorter version," Kathy Connell explained. "He was in the longer version and unfortunately the show was running long. We had to use the shorter package which did not include Mr. Haim."

No word on whether the Academy plans to use the same excuse, but we are pretty certain this wasn't simply an accident.
