Oscars 2014 move to March 2 to avoid Winter Olympics
This is the first time the Oscars will be held in March since 2010 and only the third March ceremony in the last eleven years. The March date had been expected since the 2014 Winter Olympics will run February 7-23. The official Closing Night ceremonies are planned for Feb. 23 -- the last Sunday in Feb., which has become the traditional Oscar date in recent years.
Moving earlier than the Olympics was not really an option since the Super Bowl will air Sunday, Feb. 2 and the Grammys are expected to air Sunday, Jan. 26.
Additionally, the Academy announced the date for the 2015 Oscars and it's also not much of a surprise: Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. Yes, that's the last Sunday in February, 2015.
