To promote what many are expecting to be the breakout hit original series for Starz, the premium network posted the pilot of "Outlander" online for free a full week before it actually premieres on TV on Aug. 9. And fans responded in kind.
Initial numbers have been released that reveal "Sassenach" has been watched 897,372 times with over 600,000 unique viewers (meaning some people are watching more than once). That bodes well for the historical fantasy series' actual premiere on Starz Saturday night. Zap2it reviewed the pilot positively here.
For comparison, Starz's original series "Da Vinci's Demons" had 2 million viewers tune in the weekend of its Season 2 premiere. New series "Power" only drew in 462,000 viewers for its June 7 debut, but that grew to 2.5 million viewers for the weekend of its Aug. 2 Season 1 finale.
"Outlander's" premiere episode can continue to be viewed online on Youtube (video below), Starz.com, Starz on Demand and Xfinity. The Diana Gabaldon adaptation premieres on Aug. 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Starz.
