'Patriot' and '24' actress Skye McCole Bartusiak dies at 21
The cause of death is unknown at this time, however, Bartusiak's mother, Helen tells CNN her daughter had been suffering from epileptic seizures recently.
"We think she had a seizure and choked and nobody was there," her mother said. "They were working on her for 45 minutes and could not get a heartbeat."
Bartusiak had a budding career in film and in TV. In addition to her role in "The Patriot," the actress also appeared in such movies as "The Cider House Rules" (1999), alongside Tobey Maguire and Charlize Theron, as well as "Don't Say a Word" (2001) with Michael Douglas and Brittany Murphy.
Her TV credits include "24," "Lost," and "Law & Order: SVU."
Her mother tells CNN more recently Skye was working on producing and directing her first feature film.
