Paul Giamatti negotiating to play The Rhino in 'Spider-Man 2' - report

paul-giamatti.jpg"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is shaping up to have a pretty great cast. With Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone set to return, as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively, they've also added "The Descendants'" Shailene Woodley as Parker's main love interest in the saga, Mary Jane Watson.

Now, THR reports that Paul Giamatti is in talks to play the film's villain, The Rhino. Following in the first movie's footsteps, The Rhino has yet to be portrayed in a Spider-Man film. The character is that of a Russian thug who wears a super powered suit, designed to look like a rhinoceros, that includes a horn on his forehead. His powers, strength and speed, make him a formidable opponent for Spider-Man.

While The Rhino may not be as popular with a mainstream audience, he has his fans. One of those fans is Giamatti. "I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid," the actor said in a 2011 interview, "I always thought, 'Why don't they have The Rhino in one of their movies,' but maybe The Rhino wasn't that big of a deal for anybody but me."

British actress Felicity Jones, noted for her role in the film "Like Crazy," is also negotiating for an unspecified part in the film. "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will be directed by Marc Webb, who helmed the first adventure, and is looking to start production in February.
