Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet, Sean Penn to present Oscars
Kate Winslet, Sean Penn and Penelope Cruz are the first presenters to sign on for the 2010 Academy Awards. The acting winners from one year traditionally return the next year to hand out awards (last year's best supporting actor, Heath Ledger, received his Oscar posthumously).
Last year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences kept the names of presenters under wraps, hoping it would create an element of surprise and incentive for people to tune in to the broadcast. Ratings did in fact improve, although they were up from an all-time low in 2008.
Cruz won for best supporting actress last year for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and is coming off "Nine." She co-stars in "Sex and the City 2" later this year. Penn (best actor for "Milk") will next be seen in the Valerie Plame biopic "Fair Game," while Winslet (best actress for "The Reader") will be filming the HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce" in the spring.
Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are hosting this year's Oscars, which air March 7 on ABC.
