Pilots: Jerry O'Connell subs for 'Heroes'' Sendhil Ramamurthy, CBS goes 'Private'

O'Connell will co-star in the NBC dramedy pilot "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer," swapping out for "Heroes" star Sendhil Ramamurthy who was originally cast in the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ramamurthy had a scheduling conflict with "Heroes," and since "Rex" was in second position, it needed to find a replacement. O'Connell recently wrapped the horror movie "Piranha 3-D." He also starred in the short-lived FOX series "Do Not Disturb" and other Freshman Flops.

In "Rex," former "Doctor Who" star David Tennant will play top Chicago litigator Rex Alexander whose panic attacks lead him to cope by coaching clients to represent themselves. O'Connell steps in as Rex's friend and fellow lawyer who happens to fall in love with Rex's fiancee (Abigail Spencer).

Also cast are Lindsay Kraft as Rex's assistant/waitress-singer-songwriter and Cleo King as one of Rex's clients, a bus driver with a wrongful termination case.

Also previously announced were Jane Curtin and Jeffrey Tambor.

In other pilot news, CBS is developing a drama based on best-selling author James Patterson's upcoming novel "Private," which centers on Jack Morgan, an ex-Marine and former CIA agent who takes over his dad's detective and security business.

"Fringe's" Jason Cahill will adapt the book and executive produce the project with Twentieth Century Fox TV and Imagine TV's Brian Grazer and David Nevins.

"Private," co-written with Maxine Paetro is scheduled to hit bookshelves on June 28.
