Plaxico Burress released from jail

"I just want to thank God for bringing me through one of the most trying times in my life," said Burress after being released from Oneida Correctional Facility in central New York on Monday (June 6). "It's a beautiful day. It's a beautiful day to be reunited with my family. I want to go home and spend some quality time with them."

Burress was convicted on a gun charge in 2009 after shooting himself in the thigh with an unlicensed handgun he had in his waistband at a New York nightclub. Burress pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison.

While in the slammer, Burress missed the birth of his daughter, according to the Los Angeles Times. He'll spend the next two years on parole and is required to get a job, but Burress says he's ready to get back to work -- on the football field.

"As far as football is concerned, if and when everything gets settled, when they get back on the field, I'll be ready."
