'Political Animals' premiere: What did you think of the Hammond family?

political-animals-premiere.jpg "Political Animals" premiered Sunday, July 15 on USA, starring Sigourney Weaver as Elaine Barrish Hammond, the current Secretary of State, former First Lady and failed presidential candidate who wants to make another run at the White House.

What did you think of the premiere? We found the bones of the piece to be very good -- intriguing storylines, good acting, interesting political drama. But the writing was not as strong as the other parts of the show and it became almost a distraction at times.

It won't keep us from returning to the show. We are dying to follow the Elaine-Susan Berg relationship, the small but important Anne storyline with son Doug, the dynamics at the White House between Elaine, President Garcetti and the wonderful Dylan Baker as the VP. But we hope the show's writing steps up its game to match the great people and plots it is giving dialogue to.

Furthermore, we aren't in love with Bud Hammond. We know we're not really supposed to be, but some of it is the actor cast, even. There's just something bothersome about the character in general -- did anyone else feel that way?

Leave your thoughts in the comments. Will you be returning to Washington D.C. next week?
