'Portlandia': 'Put A Bird On It' -- and watch the IFC premiere

portlandia-put-a-bird-on-it.jpgIFC launches its latest original series on Jan. 21 with the premiere of "Portlandia," a short-based comedy starring "Saturday Night Live's" Fred Armisen and former Sleater Kinney singer and guitarist Carrie Brownstein.

Striking a fairly absurd tone, the six-part series is both a love letter to the city of Portland, Oregon, and a hilarious take-down of its aggressively crunchy hipster culture.

It might be a tough sell for most audiences -- though maybe not for those already tuning into IFC -- but if the shorts they've already released are any indication of what to expect from the full episodes, it should be under consideration for your Friday viewing.

In "Put A Bird On It," Armisen and Brownstein play designers who make art out of everything by adding bird silhouettes. They don't fare as well when confronting the animals themselves:

"Portlandia" airs on IFC, Fridays at 10:30 p.m. ET.
