Pouncey brothers' 'Free [Aaron] Hernandez' hats spark trouble; Maurkice apologizes

pouncey-brothers-free-aaron-hernandez-hats.jpgTwin NFL centers Maurkice and Mike Pouncey were photographed last weekend wearing "Free Hernandez" hats, referring to their former University of Florida teammate Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end who has been charged with the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Maurkice, who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has posted an apology on Twitter, writing, "I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate, and I regret that my actions make light of that serious situation. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions."

Sources told ESPN over the weekend that the Steelers organization had planned to speak with Maurkice about the hats, but it is unknown whether that talk took place before the posted apology.

Brother Mike has yet to post any sort of apology, but sources tell ESPN that his team, the Miami Dolphins, intend to address the issue with him as well.

The twins wore the hates to a Miami nightclub where they were celebrating their 24th birthday, the actual date of which is later this month. The photo began making the rounds online after Lisa Mion posted the picture to Instagram.
