'Power' renewed for Season 2 on Starz after just one episode

Were that happening at anyplace other than Starz, it would be big news -- but that's more or less standard procedure for the channel. Several of its original series have been renewed very early in their runs, or even before they premiered.

"I am so grateful to Chris Albrecht, Carmi Zlotnik, and everyone at Starz for their support of 'Power,'" creator Courtney Kemp Agboh says in a statement. "I am thrilled and excited to have the opportunity to create a Season 2 that we plan to be bigger and better than the first."

"Power" stars Omari Hardwick as a drug dealer and nightclub owner who wants to leave his criminal ways behind. Various forces in his life may make that impossible task. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is among the series' executive producers.

The show's premiere on Saturday (June 7) drew 462,000 viewers; counting multiple replays and early streaming of the episode, however, the audience climbs to 2.6 million.

Production on the 10-episode Season 2 -- up from eight episodes this season -- is scheduled to start in September.
