'Private Practice' star Paul Adelstein dishes on the Season 5 finaleAdd to Favorites | Private Practice
Obviously, a lot of the storyline will revolve around Amelia and what's going on with her baby (it's developing without a brain, and she decided to carry it to term and donate its organs to help other infants). At the beginning of the episode, everyone will find out. "There are very mixed opinions and very passionate opinions on both sides of that debate," Adelstein says. "Cooper feels pretty strongly that as horrible as it is, the opportunity to help save so many other children is worth it. Which is to a certain degree dispassionate. It's a professional view. He's worried about Amelia, but he does from a pediatric standpoint think that's the best course, if she's willing to do it."
But don't think that's the only dramatic moment in the finale. "There's a lot going on with Pete and Violet, the love triangle between Sam and Jake and Addison is really coming to a head, and then something happens with Mason that really shows how much that he's grieving and in pain," Adelstein says. "Charlotte and Cooper are really trying to come together and make that a cohesive family unit moving forward."
He continues: "Cooper and Mason's relationship has been a little strained, but Cooper's been cutting him slack obviously because he's been grieving. What Cooper's mostly concerned about I think is how Charlotte is going to take to the whole thing, whether she's going to take to it. He's been pretty pleased to see that she's developed this great love for this child and vice versa. In the finale, I think we see them come through on the other side a little bit together. There are some really sweet moments amongst the three of them. Cooper really starts to see Charlotte embrace this role of motherhood willingly. She has a great deal of grace."
Obviously, the show will end on a dramatic note and Adelstein says Addison will be at the center of it. "There's a couple of different cliffhangers, but the major cliffhanger revolves around what's going on with Addison and Sam and Jake."
Mysterious! The "Private Practice" Season 5 finale airs Tuesday, May 15 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
