It's almost here! The 'Private Practice'/'Grey's Anatomy' crossover event, which airs Oct. 7.

On  "Private Practice," Derek's sister, Amelia (played by Caterina Scorsone) has skipped her planned trip to visit her brother. Addison ( Kate Walsh) will guilt trip her until she relents thus giving birth to Scorsone's jump over to Seattle.

Scorsone spoke to Fancast about the episode and says we'll learn some Shepherd family secrets.

"Derek and Amelia witnessed a tragedy when they were young," Scorsone tells the site. "The murder of their father - and they dealt with it in very different ways."

While Derek ( Patrick Dempsey) handled the tragedy in constructive ways, the actress says Amelia went "a darker route." In the process, she did some things to Derek that he couldn't forgive, which caused their estrangement for the last few years.

"All we know on 'Private Practice' so far is that she had a prescription drug problem, and that she was in a very dark place and OD'd at one point," says Scorsone. "But in the 'Grey's' crossover, we'll find out a lot more about what happened and why they feel so contentious with each other. We'll also find out a lot of back story about their dad, as well."
