Psy and M.C. Hammer: The story behind the epic American Music Awards mash-up
When Psy announced that he would have a "special guest" during his performance of "Gangnam Style" that would close out the 2012 American Music Awards, the fact that the K-pop star was wearing Hammer pants should have tipped everyone off to who it was. Psy was joined on stage during the show with none other than M.C. Hammer in an epic mash-up that you can watch above.
But how did that partnership come to be? Hammer tells CNN that we all have Scooter Braun to thank.
"Scooter Braun connected us, and [when] I spoke with Psy I knew right away that he is a good guy. I like working with good people ... I loved doing it and we had a great time together," Hammer says. "Psy is fantastic. He's shifted the planet. He's got the whole world dancing. And it's a rarity in this world. Only four people made that happen in history -- James Brown, Michael Jackson, yours truly and Psy."
Psy admits that he's been a lifelong fan of Hammer so it wasn't hard for him to go Hammer-time at the AMAs. He tells CNN, "Honestly, I practiced his move[s] 20 years ago, so I've done that for 20 years."
