'Psych' returns with tons of guests, including 'Lost' star Nestor Carbonell
"He's timeless," star James Roday gushed to press. "His face is sweet, and his hair is sweet, and he's a very sweet man as well."
That affection won't likely translate to the show. Carbonell's role makes him sound like the perfect foil to Roday's faux psychic detective Shawn Spencer.
Described as a criminal profiler who bests Shawn in most departments, Declan Rand will create problems -- professionally and romantically -- for Shawn in multiple episodes.
Joining Nestor later in the season are John Michael Higgins ( "Community"), Jean Smart ( "Samantha Who?"), Freddie Prinze Jr. (who just missed "She's All That" costar Rachael Leigh Cook by a few episodes) and a duo that's particularly exciting for Roday and co-star Dulé Hill: Carl Weathers ("Rocky") and William Devane ( "24").
"They're a team," said Roday. "We're a team. We, in a very unlikely series of events, have to end up sort of becoming a foursome... in order to solve a heinous crime. It's kind of like this glimpse into Shawn and Gus's fairly distant future."
But "Psych" doesn't roll out any of the hyped guest stars on the July 14 premiere, "Romeo and Juliet and Juliet." Instead, the series starts this season dealing with the aftermath of the last -- particularly Henry ( Corbin Bernsen) rejoining the police and Juliet ( Maggie Lawson) recovering from her kidnapping.
Could the brush with death mean Juliet might finally be ready for a relationship with Shawn?
"We've always said that the Shawn and Juliet development is all about Shawn being ready for Juliet," creator Steve Franks told press, "and we think he's getting really close."
