Depending on what you read today, soon-to-be unemployed Regis Philbin is either going up against current co-host Kelly Ripa with a new talk show... or collaborating with her on a TV special.

The New York Post reports that Phlibin has been taking meetings with multiple studios about starring in his own daily syndicated program when his run on "Live With Regis and Kelly" comes to an end later in 2011.

The story cites Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions and Sony as two of the syndicates interested in Philbin -- though the former denied sitting down with the personality and the latter did not address rumors. NYP also notes that this development has Ripa "p***ed" at the prospect of going up against her partner.

Unless she's actually planning on working with him on something else.

Deadline reports Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos' Milojo Productions is currently plotting a TV special starring Philbin. The unknown project would reportedly take advantage of the personality's knack for storytelling.

There's still no official end-date for Philbin's "Live" tenure, but what would you like to see the 79-year-old doing when he goes into pseudo-retirement?
