The CW's "Reign" just cast another recurring character, and this one sounds royally intriguing ... and evil.

Manolo Cardona will recur on the period drama as Tomas, the dashing Prince of Portugal, Deadline reports. He's playful and seemingly grounded, though he may have a sinister, sadistic, and completely amoral soul. Sounds like a winner, right?

No word yet on whether or not Tomas will be an ally or foe, romantic or otherwise to Mary (Adelaide Kane), but the words "sinister, sadistic, and completely amoral soul" sure don't have a nice ring to them.

The CW's highly-anticipated new historical drama follows the journey Mary Stuart takes to becoming Mary, Queen of Scots, and the political intrigue, dark forces, and sexual intrigue in the French court.

"Reign" also recently cast a romantic threat to Mary: Yael Grobglas will play Olivia, an Italian noblewoman who has romantic history with Prince Francis (Toby Regbo). Her reappearance at court under extreme circumstances threatens Francis' new, and highly important, engagement with Mary.

"Reign" premieres Thursday, Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
