'Reign' star Adelaide Kane: Mary's brother and uncle bring bad news from Scotland

Explains star Adelaide Kane, "Mary's half brother, James, arrives and tries to convince Mary to come home with him. Francis becomes suspicious of his motives in taking her away from the safety of French Court, and they end up having a huge fight as his actions sort of step on her personal liberties," she says. You can see the blowup in Zap2it's exclusive clip of the episode. "He essentially asserts a superior power over her and overrides some of her decisions which causes a huge rift between the two of them."

That's not the only familial issue plaguing Mary. In the next episode, "Toy Soldiers," her uncle comes to visit. "The Duke of Guise, her mother's brother, arrives with further bad news about her mother and Scotland," Kane tells Zap2it. "Mary has to make some more very difficult decisions."

She continues,"Mary has to deal with the political unrest and try to face her mother, and Francis has to deal with political unrest between France and England, which sort of ties in to his father's increasing instability. They're both torn between putting their own countries first and staying true to each other and their marriage, and that causes some of my favorite scenes in the seasons so far, which are coming up in those episodes as a result of having to make really hard political choices."

Although Season 1 is winding down, that doesn't mean the drama will let up any time soon.

"We have a lot of unresolved issues: There's the prophecy that's still unresolved, the whole issue of the Darkness, political unrest in Scotland, political unrest with the English and within France itself, with the king's continuing deterioration. There's the whole issue of Lola and her secret pregnancy -- there's a lot of things that are yet unresolved," Kane says. "Some of them will be resolved this season, some will be left unresolved until next season."

"Reign" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
