Former "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino was taken to a North Carolina hospital Monday night after an overdose on medication.

The 26-year-old Barrino, who's been at the center of a sex-tape controversy in recent days, was taken to a hospital in Charlotte, N.C., shortly before 9 p.m. ET Monday (Aug. 9). Her rep confirms to TMZ that Barrino was admitted for a "medication overdose."

Details surrounding the incident -- first reported by WCNC-TV in Charlotte -- are sketchy. It's unclear what kind of medication was involved, or whether the overdose was accidental or intentional.
