If you weren't already excited about "Star Wars" returning with J.J. Abrams at the help of "Episode VII," this might do the trick. It's being reported that "Looper" and "Breaking Bad" director Rian Johnson will write and direct "Episode VIII" and possibly "Episode IX."
The dueling reports come from Deadline and The Wrap. Deadline says he will write and direct both movies, while The Wrap says he's just on board to direct "Episode VIII." However, The Wrap notes he will write a treatment for "Episode VIII."
Shortly after the reports appeared, Johnson tweeted a clip from "The Right Stuff" in which Alan Shepard (Scott Glenn) prays, "Dear Lord, please don't let me f*** up."
While Johnson has received critical acclaim for his movies, it might be the episodes of "Breaking Bad" he directed that many will know him for the most. He did three in total, including "Ozymandias," which is widely believed to be the best of the series. He also directed the Season 3's "Fly" and Season 5's "Fifty-One."
"Star Wars: Episode VII" is currently in production with a scheduled release date of Dec. 18, 2015.
