Well, it's definitely the most bizarre grandfather-grandson relationship on TV, but "Rick and Morty" a welcome addition to Adult Swim's lineup. The animated series, from Dan Harmon ( "Community") and Justin Roiland, takes alcoholic Rick and his grandson Morty on a series of insane adventures through space, other dimensions and wherever else they end up.
Roiland voices both lead characters, with Chris Parnell, Sarah Chalke and Spencer Grammer rounding out the cast. On their adventure in the pilot, Rick and Morty deal with bombs, the space's version of the TSA and, of course, Morty's crush on a girl in his class. After all, he's a teenager.
Naturally some are going to tune into "Rick and Morty" expecting the kind of humor they've grown to love on "Community." While the show is definitely funny, it takes Harmon's brand of humor to an adsurd new level, beyond anything even Abed could dream of. The best part of it all is it works. Between the funny characters and the endless possibilities of worlds the two can visit, "Rick and Morty" has plenty of places to go.
If you missed the premiere of "Rick and Morty," never fear. Adult Swim has released the pilot online and you can watch it here.
