ricky-gervais-muppets-sequel-gi.jpg Rickey Gervais confirms he will star in the upcoming sequel to Jason Segel's "The Muppets." The controversial comic actor tweets, "I have just signed up to play the lead in the next Muppet Movie. I have the biggest trailer but Kermit will spend some time in my sink."

THR first reported Gervais was in talks to star opposite Ty Burrell, who is set to play "a lazy Interpol inspector" in the latest Muppets romp through Europe.

Segel won't return to the franchise this round, but director James Bobin is back. According to THR, there is still one lead human role yet to be announced for this Muppet caper.

Best bets are on a female lead. (Please don't say Sofia Vergara; please don't say Sofia Vergara.) Production is said to begin in January, so a name should be forthcoming.

Who would you cast to star opposite Gervais, Burrell, Kermit and Miss Piggy?
