Rob Lowe: 'Prosecuting Casey Anthony' star talks 'shocking' trial

Rob Lowe returns to Lifetime this weekend with the film "Prosecuting Casey Anthony." Instead of shining a positive light on Anthony, the story is told from the perspective of one of the case's prosecutors, Jeff Ashton.

In anticipation of the movie's premiere on Jan. 19, Lowe has been doing the rounds promoting "Prosecuting Casey Anthony." He talks to Showbiz Tonight about his impressions of the trial.

"This was a circus, and I think Jeff is a gentleman of court," Lowe says. "He comes from an era where certain things are done and certain things are not done in court. I think [Anthony's attorney] Jose Baez is the type of lawyer who just goes for it and the jury believed Jose."

He adds to Fox411 of his reaction to Anthony not being indicted, "I was shocked by the verdict like I think 99 percent of people were, but then when I dug into the minutiae of the trial and the behind the scenes of the trial there was so much that went on that I was unaware of, that was shocking to me."

It was those details he was unaware of that convinced Lowe he needed to make a movie about this story. Even though he lived through the trial, Ashton tells Central Florida News that he plans to tune into Lifetime Saturday.

"It's going to be interesting. I am going to watch it with friends. My wife and I went to Winnipeg and watched a day of filming, and met most of the principal actors. I know there are parts of it that I am not going to like," he says. "There's a preview out there right now, where Mr. Lowe has a line playing me where he says something like, 'When I'm finished with her, she'll be the most hated woman in America.' And when I saw that, I thought, 'I never would say that.' So I'm sure there are going to be moments when I go, 'Oh, my God.'"
