"Iron Man" and "Avengers" star Robert Downey Jr. has quite a bit to say about Marvel movies that don't include him. After telling the world that "Guardians of the Galaxy" is the best Marvel movie yet, he's ready to jump start two more franchises.
Speaking with USA Today, Downey says the world is ready for a Black Widow and Hulk movies. When asked about the lack of a movie dedicated to Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Downey jokes, "Doesn't Scarlett deserve a break?" However, he believes the female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe help make the movies what they are. "I think that the interesting thing particularly after 'Guardians' with Zoe [Saldana], [or] even from the first 'Iron Man' where Pepper was kind of this really -- to me the 'Iron Man' franchise would never have taken off without [Gwyneth] Paltrow."
That said, it's Johansson he thinks has the best shot at her own movie. "It would be kind of more appropriate for a character that already was like a Black Widow [to lead a movie]," he says. "It just seems like whatever Scarlett does people want to go see it."
As for Hulk, after two solo movies that didn't go so well, Downey thinks it's time to give the character another shot. "I'd like to hear them talk even more seriously about a Hulk franchise, because that's been one of the toughest ones to get right," he explains. "But I'm sure that my parent company is feeling expansive and and bold after the summer they've had."
Perhaps Downey will get his wish. After all, "Ant Man" is being made into a movie so anything is possible.
