Robert Redford to join 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' - report
Considering the success of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, it's no wonder that big names keep being drawn to studio's planned movies. The latest actor to be interested in joining one of Marvel films is the biggest yet: Robert Redford.
According to Deadline, Redford is in talks to play "a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero collective run by Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury character." If he does take the role, Redford will first appear in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" -- though, as fans of the movies know, that could only be the first of many future appearances.
Marvel is now in Phase 2 of its Cinematic Universe, with "Iron Man 3" kicking off the next batch of Avengers movies when it is released on May 3. "Thor: The Dark World" is due out on Nov. 8, and then "The Winter Soldier" will come out on April 4, 2014. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the upcoming movie, which stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo and Hayley Atwell. Future scheduled Marvel movies include "Guardians of the Galaxy," "The Avengers 2" and "Ant-Man."
