The debates can (maybe) finally end: "Gone Girl" has found its female star -- should she accept the role.

Rosamund Pike has officially been offered the starring role opposite Ben Affleck in David Fincher's mystery thriller, THR reports. Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are being eyed for supporting roles.

Pike, who most recently starred in "Jack Reacher" opposite Tom Cruise, will play a wife who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary. Her husband (Affleck) then becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance.

Many actresses were reportedly in the running for the much buzzed-about role, including Natalie Portman, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Olivia Wilde, and Abbie Cornish, but looks like Pike edged them all out after rumors of her possible casting surfaced last week.

Author Gillian Flynn adapted the screenplay for the adaptation from her novel and the film begins production in September.
