Royal baby name announced: Meet George Alexander Louis
May we present Prince George Alexander Louis, son of William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Alternatively, call the new English royalty His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
After quite a lot of waiting, Clarence House, the official news outlet for Prince William and family, has announced the name of William and Kate's new baby via Twitter. Posting on Tuesday (July 24), the announcement tweet read:
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis."
A follow-up tweet gave followers the proper title to use when addressing the lad:
"The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge."
We can expect fake Twitter accounts for the baby by the end of the day.
Two more fun facts about the royal baby's name:
- This is definitely the first time an heir to the British crown has been announced via social media. It's a new age, people!
- Assuming young George keeps that name when he eventually ascends to the British throne, he will be George VII. The most recent George was the baby's great-great-grandfather, George VI (the father of current monarch Queen Elizabeth II).
