Russell Brand files for divorce from Katy Perry
"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends," the comedian says in a statement to the AP.
According to TMZ, Brand used the tried-and-true "irreconcilable differences" in the papers, which he filed Dec. 30 in Los Angeles.
Perry and Brand met on the set of "Get Him to the Greek" in 2009 and began dating shortly thereafter, getting engaged during the 2009 Christmas holidays and tying the knot in India on Oct. 23, 2010.
What a difference two years can make -- the couple reportedly spent Christmas apart this year, and were both spotted in public without their wedding rings.
Although rumors about the pair having problems surfaced throughout 2011, they both repeatedly said in interviews that they were still married and had no plans to divorce.
