Russell Crowe gets a lift from the Coast Guard after kayaking mishap
Crowe and his friend, Chris Feather, went kayaking in Long Island's Cold Spring Harbor Saturday (Sept. 1). When darkness fell, the pair got "a little lost" and ended up in Huntington Bay, about 10 miles from their starting point.
"He just needed a little bit of help, he just got a little lost," Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki tells the AP. "It wasn't really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift."
Crowe and Feather got a ride back to their starting point, and the actor thanked the Coast Guard on Twitter afterward -- although he takes issue with the notion he was lost.
"Kayak; Cold Spring/Huntington Harbour, thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way," he wrote, adding later, "not lost, we knew where exactly where we were, paddling around from [Cold Spring Harbor] into wind, we ran out of day."
Crowe is in Long Island filming "Noah" for director Darren Aronofsky, and as you can see from the photo, sporting a biblical beard for the role.
