Sam Champion's 'GMA' goodbye brings Josh Elliott to tears: WatchAdd to Favorites | Good Morning America
Sam Champion did not have an easy time saying goodbye to his co-hosts at "Good Morning America" on Dec. 4. The weatherman is heading to a new job as managing editor at the Weather Channel, and he was bid an emotional farewell from Robin Roberts, Josh Elliott, George Stephanopoulos and Lara Spencer.
The bromance between Champion and Elliott has been no secret, but Elliott got especially choked up when it became his time to bid goodbye to his friend. "I just want to say thank you because it's been a gift each and every day to work with you, Sam," he says. "A lot of people talk about our bromance. For me it was just a friendship. I promise there's happy on the inside, but the tears ... aw, I'm going to miss you. I love you, Sam."
There also were some laughs on the special Champion-filled broadcast, including a look back at his 25 years with ABC. Champion used this opportunity to pass the weather boots to his replacement, Ginger Zee. "You have been the best partner I could have ever asked for coming to this national stage. I couldn't have had a better leader and I couldn't have learned from anyone [better]," Zee tells Champion.
"This is a lot harder than I thought it would be," Champion admits.
