Sara Gilbert revealed the struggles she's experienced with her sexuality over the years during Thursday's (September 12) episode of "The Talk." Though she came out publicly as a lesbian in 2010, Gilbert says she first realized it while taping "Roseanne."

While making the show, Gilbert says she dated co-star Johnny Galecki ("Big Bang Theory") and she often found herself depressed when they would make out. In the end, Sarah "eventually told him I thought it was about my sexuality," and he was very supportive. In fact, Sara says she called Johnny before opening up on "The Talk" and he said he was proud of her and would be right next to her, holding her hand, if asked.

Gilbert says part of her is still afraid of any repercussions of being open about her life, but admits "The Talk" has helped her. "I want to live a true life. Beyond that, we do often say things like 'it gets better' -- and it does get better," she says. "I have an amazing life, but there can still be a struggle with it, and that's okay. There can be a part of you that doesn't want to be different or feel scared. And that is more important than any of it."

Sara got engaged to former 4 Non Blondes lead singer Linda Perry back in April and shared the happy news on "The Talk."
