Sarah Hughes previews 2014 Winter Olympics women's figure skaters for 'Today'

With the 2014 Winter Olympic Games just a week away, on Thursday (Jan. 30) "Today" welcomed 2002 Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hughes to preview the women's figure skaters the nation will be watching in Sochi.

There's Gracie Gold, who absolutely killed the 2014 U.S. Nationals; Ashley Wagner, a veteran who had a rough time at the same competition; and Polina Edmunds, who is just 15 years old, but burst onto the scene to take second place at Nationals.

Hughes talks about how for Edmunds, this is her first international competition at the senior level -- can you imagine your first international competition being the Olympics?

As for Gold, Hughes says, "She's fabulous, and I'm really rooting for her because she's such an exciting skater ... she does these phenomenal jumps, these triple-triples, and she just sparkles."

"This is [Wagner's] first Olympic games [too], so she's never had this experience before. But she's had a steady stream of international success over the past few years and I think she's considered the veteran of the ladies," adds Hughes.

The Winter Olympics kick off Thursday, Feb. 6 with the first competitions, though the opening ceremony is Friday, Feb. 7. NBC will be providing coverage in primetime, plus live-streaming all the competitions at NBCOlympics.com
