Sarah Jessica Parker: Too old for 'Sex and the City 3'?Add to Favorites | Sex and the City
In a new interview with The Daily Beast, Bushnell, the author of "Sex and the City," was asked if she thought the franchise would earn a third movie after 2010's "SATC 2," which many fans viewed as a debacle.
"No," Bushnell says pointedly. "Look, Sarah Jessica Parker is 47. I think with the second movie, Carrie Bradshaw couldn't be an ingenue anymore. But I think they were stuck what the audience wanted." Ouch.
Granted, the author could be swiping back at Parker for the actress' comments to Net-A-Porter regarding her feelings over a new actress playing Carrie in The CW's "The Carrie Diaries". (Bushnell serves as an executive producer on the prequel series, based on her novel.)
"You know, I think it's one of those tests of your generosity. She ["Carrie Diaries" star Anna-Sophia Robb] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about it, but it's ... odd," Parker told the site.
Bushnell's response to Parker's "odd" feeling: tough luck. "The reality is, that's showbiz. Sarah Jessica's first part was somebody else's part. She played Annie on Broadway. She understands how these things work."
This all seems remarkably catty for such a moot point, considering the chances of a third "Sex and the City" film being wrought on the world are particularly slim.
