'Saturday Night Live' welcomes new cast member Kate McKinnonAdd to Favorites | Saturday Night Live
According to Deadline, McKinnon, along with Jessica Joy, Lauren Lapkus and Elaine Carroll, have all tested for "SNL" honcho Lorne Michaels in recent weeks, but McKinnon made the cut and will debut soon. NBC has not commented officially on the matter.
It makes sense that Michaels is looking to add more women to the cast, since both Kristen Wiig and Abby Elliott could leave the show at the end of the season.
McKinnon comes from New York's Upright Citizens Brigade theater, and was a cast member on Logo's "Big Gay Sketch Show." She also has the distinction of being the first openly gay cast member in "SNL" history.
