'Scandal's' Joshua Malina: Shonda Rhimes killed David Rosen in a different Season 2 ending ... as a prank on him

joshua-malina-scandal-abc.jpg "Scandal" has turned into one of the week's must-watch dramas on TV. The scripts are so full of twists that creator Shonda Rhimes doesn't even give them to the actors in advance. Joshua Malina tells "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that there are two reasons for this.

"One, I think she doesn't really trust the actors, doesn't want us to reveal anything," says Malina. "And two, she has that kid's thing of wanting to see the surprise as people read it."

"Being concerned about my job ... I usually just sit down immediately and go to the end of the script and start reading backwards to see if my character is still alive," Malina continues "That's the most important thing to me."

Which led the team to pull a rather funny prank on Malina.

"Shonda doesn't like this because she wants to see it happen as we read it aloud and because I am a prankster, they did a horrible thing to me," says Malina. "The Season 2 finale, we got there for the table read ... I sit down and surreptitiously am looking and to my horror I see that there is a scene in which my character dies. They're talking about 'the blood drips out of the drill holes in David's body' and I closed it and I turend to Scott Foley and I said, 'I think I die in this one! What the hell is going on?!'"

"I should've realized, it took me about a minute, then I looked at Bellamy Young's script and it had a different ending. They had written an ending just to catch me. It was very cool."

Heh. Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall at one of their table reads? "Scandal" airs at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday nights on ABC.
