'Scandal's' 'Writers' Room' episode: Watch Kerry Washington and Shonda Rhimes discuss the show so far

Sundance Channel's "The Writers' Room" is back Friday (April 18) for a second season of an in-depth look at the writers behind the greatest shows on TV. The premiere episode features Shonda Rhimes, Kerry Washington and the writers from "Scandal" -- a day after the explosive Season 3 finale which star George Newbern tells Zap2it sets the show off "in a completely new direction."

Check out these sneak peek clips of the "Scandal" "Writers' Room" episode. Above, Rhimes says that Cyrus Beene wasn't initially gay on the show, but she watched a scene early on in Season 1 and it suddenly hit her, so she went back to the writers' room and said, "You guys, Cyrus is gay."

Below, Washington says her agents thought Olivia Pope was written specifically for her because she was so right for the part -- but it wasn't actually written specifically for her, so she had to audition like everyone else. Hee.

"The Writers' Room" Season 2 premieres Friday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sundance, while "Scandal" ends its third season Thursday (April 17) at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
