Sean Sasser dies: 'Real World' star was 44

sean-sasser-real-world-star-dies.jpg Sean Sasser, an AIDS activist who appeared on "The Real World" in the early '90s, has passed away at the age of 44.

Friend and fellow cast member Judd Winick announced the news of Sasser's passing on Twitter on Tuesday (Aug. 6) night.  "Our friend Sean Sasser has died. Our love goes out to his family & husband Michael. We will miss u so much," Winick tweeted.

Sasser, who was HIV positive, succumbed to mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer of the lungs, according to life partner Michael Kaplan, Queerty reports.

Sasser rose to prominence in the early 1990s when his relationship with Pedro Zamora, who starred on "The Real World: San Francisco," was highlighted on the MTV reality hit. Their commitment ceremony was one of the first ever to be televised prior to Zamora's death in 1994.
