NBC announced that the Republican congressman, who gained notoriety during October's weeks-long government shutdown after a 21-hour speech on the Senate floor, will be making an appearance on "The Tonight Show" on Friday, Nov. 8.

Touted by the network as his first late-night appearance, Cruz is expected to discuss not only the shutdown with Jay Leno, but the debt ceiling, Washington's gridlock and the current state of the Republican Party, as well.

Cruz follows President Barack Obama's August appearance and Ann Romney's visit in early October to promote her cook book.
