Shailene Woodley up for a big role in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'
Today is both good and bad for Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley. Only hours after news broke that her ABC Family show "Secret Life of the American Teenager" has been cancelled, Variety is reporting that the 20-year-old actress is Sony's top choice to play Mary Jane Watson in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and is in talks for the role.
This is a pretty big deal for Woodley, who earned much recognition for her role in last year's Oscar-winning "The Descendants." Our guess is that Woodley's Mary Jane wouldn't be a love interest just yet as Peter Parker is currently dating Gwen Stacy, but that this could be set up for a future Peter/Mary Jane romance.
Variety is also reporting that Sony is looking for an actor to play Peter Parker's best friend Harry Osborn (he was played by James Franco in the previous "Spider-Man" films) and that the second "Amazing Spider-Man" villain could be Electro.
Director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield are both back for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," and leading lady Emma Stone is expected to return as well. The film is due out in theaters on May 2, 2014.
