'Shake It Up': Disney Channel show to come to an endAdd to Favorites | Shake It Up!
The original series will wrap up its run after 78 episodes, Deadline reports, with a final set of episodes due to air this summer and in the fall. "Shake It Up" is the No. 1 TV series year-to-date in both the kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 demos, but the move to end the series while it's on top isn't uncommon for the network.
In June 2012, the network also said it was wrapping up "Good Luck Charlie" after four seasons, 100 episodes and a hit TV movie. The cancellation of both shows comes as the cabler is prepping the debuts of a handful of new series including "I Didn't Do It" and "Girl Meets World," with "Shake It Up" executive producer Rob Lotterstein moving over to co-exec produce "I Didn't Do It."
At least one of the series' stars will be sticking around the Mouse House, with Zendaya inking a deal to star in the as-yet-untitled original movie based on the book "Boys Are Dogs," set to go into production this August. The actress, who wowed on "Dancing with the Stars" this past spring, also has a recording contract with Disney's Hollywood Records, with her solo album set for release Sept. 17. The lead single, "Replay," is already available on iTunes.
Her co-star Bella Thorne also has a Hollywood Records deal, as well as a three-book deal with Random House. She's also attached to star in indie thriller "Home Invasion."
Are you disappointed "Shake It Up" will shake no more?
