"Shameless" Season 4 has arrived and the more things change, the more they stay the same. With the kids in the Gallagher house growing up, Lip ( Jeremy Allen White) is off at college and Ian ( Cameron Monaghan) has enlisted in the army, using his older brother's identification.
It leaves Fiona ( Emmy Rossum) with less siblings to keep track of, but things are as crazy as ever. She's gotten more responsibility at work, along with a relationship with her boss, Carl ( Ethan Cutkosky) has somehow convinced her to allow Frank ( William H. Macy) back into the house and Debs ( Emma Kenney) is growing up and becoming a young woman. Of course, that means she's auctioning off her virginity online for a million dollars.
Just because he's away at college doesn't mean Lip is sitting out the season. The show is following him to college to see how he's adjusting to the new life. It turns out he can smoke pot and drink beer there too, so everything is fine.
Sheila ( Joan Cusack) returns as well, even though she has absolutely no connection to the Gallaghers anymore. Her daughter is gone and it seems she's become a maid for the Gallaghers. No one's quite sure why, but they're fine with it.
Frank is worse than ever after learning that his liver is failing. He makes his first appearance when caught squatting in a house. Drinking causes him to cough up blood, so alternatives must be found. He's counting on Carl to keep him alive.
Unfortunately for fans who may have been hoping for it, there is no sign of Jimmy/Steve ( Justin Chatwin) anywhere and Fiona seems to have truly moved on after telling him goodbye at the end of Season 3.
It's an interesting start to a new chapter in the Gallagher family's story, but Ian and Lip being off in his own world just shows how great the family is together, as a unit. Hopefully they reunite soon.
"Shameless" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
