'Sharknado 2' only wants Ian Ziering, not Tara Reid - report

ian-ziering-sharknado-2-tara-reid.jpgFollowing the Twitter-nado surrounding Syfy's original movie "Sharknado" on July 11, the network quickly announced a sequel, plus a Twitter contest to help name the subtitle of "Sharknado 2." We can only hope and pray that the chainsaw-wielding Ian Ziering returns for the sequel, but one person who may not be back is Tara Reid.

TMZ says that sources connect to the production tell them the only actor they want back for the follow-up is Ziering. We can't say we're overly bummed about Reid not returning as his estranged wife -- as Alan Sepinwall put it, "In all seriousness, Ian Ziering is acting Tara Reid off the screen in this movie" -- but we were hoping to find out what becomes of Ziering's on-screen son and his new love interest.

The sequel is reportedly going to be based in New York City, which means a whole new lineup of landmarks to be infested with sharks. We're keeping our fingers crossed for Yankee Stadium.

While we all eagerly await "Sharknado 2," don't forget that August is Original Movie Month on Syfy. Offerings include "Ghost Shark" and "Invasion Roswell."
