Admit it. You knew it had to happen.
On Wednesday (July 17), Syfy confirmed that a sequel to "Sharknado" is in the works, following inevitable hunches that such a follow-up was a given. Last week's TV-movie thriller prompted a headline-making cataclysm of tweets, even from scientists who opted to address whether sharks could fall from the sky in a natural disaster.
The same production house, The Asylum, is now prepping "Sharknado 2" for the channel for telecast in 2014. And there will be more to that title: Appropriately enough, Syfy has opened a contest on Twitter for the public to propose a subtitle. Entries can be tweeted to @SyfyMovies, with the hashtag #Sharknado included.
Other than the requisite parade of lethal creatures plucked from the ocean and dropped from above, casting for the sequel hasn't been announced. Along with Tara Reid and John Heard, a now-famously chainsaw-armed Ian Ziering headed the cast of the original, which gets a Syfy repeat Thursday (July 18).
Having at least one of them back for "Sharknado 2" would yield a logical story link, but in the end, all you really need are more sharks and another tornado. And there will be those. Oh, yes ... there will be those.
