Sharon Osbourne reveals she's had a double mastectomyAdd to Favorites | America's Got Talent
Sharon Osbourne recently revealed that she has taken some major action to ensure that she doesn't get cancer again. It turns out that the "America's Got Talent" judge underwent a double mastectomy after discovering she carries a gene making her more susceptible to breast cancer.
"I've had cancer before, and I didn't want to live under that cloud. I decided to just take everything off, and had a double mastectomy," she tells Hello magazine, via E! Online. "For me, it wasn't a big decision, it was a no-brainer. I didn't want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me."
Her motivation was as much for her family as it was for herself. Osbourne explains that she wants to be a part of the life of her new granddaughter, Jack Osbourne's daughter Pearl.
"I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl. I didn't even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way. I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time," she says. "It's not 'pity me.' It's a decision I made that's got rid of this weight that I was carrying around."
Osbourne was diagnosed with colon cancer back in 2002. The 60-year-old documented her treatment on MTV's "The Osbournes," and it was a period of time that heavily impacted her family. She subsequently founded the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars Sinai Hospital in 2004.
